Hei weak spark

No-spark conditions can have a number of causes, but for starters, we need to know if we have spark when we crank the engine. As shown in the Crank/No Start video, you can easily check for spark with a spark tester or screwdriver. In fact, with a crank/no start condition, I often check for spark first since it’s usually the easiest thing to ...

Ignition Troubleshooting: No Spark The ignition system is fairly easy to troubleshoot in the case of malfunction. There are 6 major components that work together to produce spark, if any of these is defective, spark will be lost. What we will be doing here is troubleshooting these ignition parts.
Alright all, quesiton. I'm getting a weak spark to my plugs in my pick-up. The ignition is a HEI ignition and has the coil mounted in the distributor and also a vacuum advance distributor. I checked the voltagegoing to the batt it is 12V while the key is in the run position. COuld this be a module prob? Ground prob? Or possiblyweak coil. Oct 11, 2001 · The cable on a single-rod system may give you a spark, but will not return a microamp signal due to a break in the cable. 3. Go from the tip of the igniter to ground — this time you should not have continuity. (See Figure 1.) If you do, it is shorted to ground at some point. This would cause a no-spark or weak-spark condition.

The Ignitor has no set specification in which the spark plugs should be gapped at. Every engine responds differently to spark plug settings. In most cases increasing the factory recommended gap by .005 improves the engine performance, but we cannot know all the parameters of your engine, so it is entirely your choice.

Hei weak spark

Checked to see that the rotor was aligned and timed right, even tried retarding and advancing to try and catch a spark. Now all I can think of is the spark is weak for some reason and cant jump the gap between the rotor and distributor. I tried connecting an old style condenser to the coil but that did nothing. Mine has something called a knock ...

If the battery is weak to begin with, voltage may drop below what is required for the Ignitor to function properly. In cases of low voltage the red wire should be connected to a full 12 V source from the ignition switch as mentioned in the instructions. Ignition components . . . the GM HEI is a good unit, but you can add some different modules in it for possibly better sparking, plus a higher-performance cap and rotor. Find some Borg-Warner CoolWire magnetic suppression spark plug wires (less resistance in the wire, but still enough for a quiet radio, with the hood down).
